About Me
I am not a conventional therapist. I do not really like the term therapist. I rather think of myself as a fellow human being who wants to help.
Any wisdom or knowledge I have acquired has come out of personal necessity. In my mid twenties I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Soon after my wife became very ill with Bipolar Disorder. The chaos and suffering that these illnesses produced impelled me to seek out sources of healing.
After much reading, listening and learning I discovered Loch Kelly’s awakening practice of Effortless Mindfulness (EM) and Richard Schwartz’s healing model of Internal Family Systems (IFS). The daily practice of EM helped me wake up to my core Self, which in turn gave me the courage to work toward healing with an IFS Therapist. While the practice of waking up and healing is never finished, I felt I had grown enough to turn my attention outward. I initially started teaching meditation before training in and practicing IFS Therapy.
Ten years on from my mental health crises, I feel much more at peace, with an underlying sense of well being and many sources of meaning. I find great joy, satisfaction and fulfilment in my work and feel truly lucky to have got to know and helped so many wonderful people.
My qualifications are a IFS Level 1 Training Certificate and a Level 4 Diploma in CBT & Counselling. You can find me on the IFS Practioner Directory at https://directory-uk.internalfamilysystemstraining.co.uk/practitioner/david-hilton/. You can also find me as a listed practitioner on The Nondual Therapy Directory.
